Detox dairy: Day 3
I’m doing a 7-day fruit and vegetable cleanse to give my gut a break from all the carbo-loading and meat eating it had been doing for the past several months. I’m trying to document my daily experience through this post, as I am on Instagram break as well.
Tuesday – Busy day at work + Yoga
I woke up at 5:45am intending to run but I feel a bit sluggish. I think I haven‘t recovered from the lack of sleep two nights ago. With another injury coming (a shooting pain in my right leg stopped me at 8km last Saturday) I thought I’d give my legs few more days of rest.
At 6am, I’m peeling fruits and vegetables again. I grilled parsnips and carrots with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar and honey for lunch. They didn’t taste quite as good as when they just came out of the oven.
This diet is actually not that difficult to follow through. Except for the tiresome meal planning and endless peeling, I didn’t have severe pangs of hunger or cravings. Yes I look at other people’s plates like a lovelorn puppy but the envy is not strong enough to break my fast. I do pop in a couple of salted nuts and the dried dates are sweet but other than that, I don’t go through the day as a hungry zombie.
However today, I snapped at my daughter throwing tantrums at the back of the car. I don’t think it was because of the detox. It was hectic at work. I was running around preparing shipments and lifting 15-20kilo boxes. I was exhausted. We’re stuck in traffic and I still had to cook dinner. So my outburst was a result of those tiring, frustrating days that a common working class mother get every so often. You just want to go home as soon as possible, cook dinner, get the kid to bed and rest.
I went to Hatha Yoga in between dinner and putting the kid to bed. It was a light class, not as active as Pilates so I survived the hour on smoothie and a few pieces of string beans. I cooked a mean meal of string beans adobo with lots of pork belly, which kid and husband love so much. I ate one tiny piece of pork belly to taste. Was that cheating?
I think this cleanse is only re-affirming that I have a strong self-control and when I commit myself to something, I can see it through to the end. I do really miss sharing the same meal that I cook for my family, or eat my colleague’s lunch.
On the menu:
- Breakfast. Apple, mango, pear.
- Lunch. Grilled carrots and parsnips with drizzle of balsamic vinger and honey.
- Dinner. Grapes, frozen banana, spinach, coconut milk smoothie.
- Snacks. Dates, nuts, one mango, one avocado.
Toilet visit (no.2) One
Weight: Still 48.7 kilos. My stomach is not getting flatter either or thighs getting slimmer like others claim when they do a detox.
