Detox diary: Day 1
I’m doing a 7-day fruit and vegetable cleanse to give my gut a break from all the carbo-loading and meat eating it had been doing for the past several months. I’m trying to document my daily experience through this post, as I am on Instagram break as well.
Sunday – The husband cooks lechon
It’s 6:30pm as I wrote this, almost bed time. I felt so weak all I wanted to do was sleep. I had headache all day, I was shivering, my body aches like I’m going to have a flu and right now I think I’m going to throw up. That’s Day 1 of my fruit and vegetable cleanse.
On the menu:
- Breakfast- smoothie of apple, apple juice, spinach, cucumber and ginger for breakfast.
- Lunch – cauliflower and parsnip soup.
- Dinner – steamed broccoli drizzled with truffle oil and chili powder and steamed mushroom with a drizzle of lemon and soy sauce for dinner.
I was munching on nuts, raisins and dates every two hours and thinking of food every second.
While I eat my dinner, my husband was cutting a slab of roasted pork belly in front of me, its golden brown skin making a crackling sound as the knife cuts through it, the heavy smell of fat and salt filling up my nostrils. This was pure torture.
I hope the kid sleeps through tonight because I don’t think I could survive another sleepless night. I actually dread going to work tomorrow.
9:00 PM. After dinner, I was cold and shivering uncontrollably. My headache was so terrible that all I could do was lie down on the couch. But all got better after I threw up, took a warm bath and got a head massage from the husband, who was all too willing to make up for the fact that he cooked lechon on my first day of fasting.
I think my dinner was the culprit. I ate too much and too heavy while I haven’t had a solid meal the whole day. Lesson learned.
Toilet visit (no. 2): 4 times
