Detox diary: Day 6

Im doing a 7-day fruit and vegetable cleanse to give my gut a break from all the carbo-loading and meat eating it had been doing for the past several months. I’m trying to document my daily experience through this post, as I am on Instagram break as well.

Friday – Still no running

I didn’t run today. I think I’ve become a bit lazy. I must find the motivation to train again. Or is it because I’m lacking energy?

Except for the left-over mushroom stir-fry, I ate almost raw vegan today. It was so hot in the Netherlands. At 2pm, the car’s thermometer registered 29 degrees celsius, an exceptional summery weather for April. The warm streak will continue for the rest of the week. I wonder how many housing foundation would be affected by what seems to be another dry season in the Netherlands.

Anyway, back to my detox. There’s really nothing exciting to report today. I went to work for a couple of hours and spent the rest of the morning in a restaurant, sipping orange juice and reading Françoise Sagan in the sun. Then I did a quick grocery shopping at an Asian store in Rotterdam for my supply of Japanese condiments. Then back home to the kid and husband. My day off and the warm weather allowed for a long siesta.

I survived the day on an avocado for breakfast, a Vietnamese vegan spring roll, orange juice, a bit of stir fry leftover and mango, cucumber, tomato salad.

While these meals maybe sufficient and delicious, they’re still incredibly boring. I’m just more convinced that I will never be vegan, much less raw vegan not because I love meat too much but I can’t live without enjoying texture, flavour and variety in my meals. You could only put so much taste vegan food unless you’re a Japanese monk who could whip up really good vegan meals. All the meal planning and prepping takes up a lot of time and I’m not willing to compromise my job and running for a diet which I also think is not that planet friendly. I mean I’m eating avocados and mangoes several times a week! Hello carbon footprint.
